Observatory of Cultural Policies in Africa
An Observatory of Cultural Policies in Africa (OCPA) is being set up to
monitor cultural trends and national cultural policies in the region and
enhance their integration in human development strategies through advocacy,
information, research, capacity building, networking, co-ordination and
co-operation at the regional and international levels.
The Observatory was born out of a need for a common
structure dedicated to the task of collecting information on ongoing
policies, local and national initiatives, and regional and international
trends. It also aims to provide a forum to analyse cultural policies
in order to provide guidelines to encourage further research.
The Observatory is supported by the Organization
of African Unity (OAU), the Ford Foundation and UNESCO. Its interim
Secretariat is currently located in Maputo, Mozambique. Its web site,
one of the focal points of the observatory, is at www.imo.hr/ocpa/
